 Artist Statement

I have always had a great passion for landscape and the lay of the land.

The area I live in has always been a great inspiration, the hedgerows and dry stone walls give a wonderful feeling of how the landscape has been shaped by the people who have lived here from time immemorial, something that’s always fascinated me.
I’ve worked mainly as a printmaker for many years, focussing on landscapes as etchings and silkscreen prints, both very different techniques. They have their limitations, like all visual art, but etching is a medium I have always loved because of the detail I am able to do, while silkscreen gives me the greater variety of colour that cannot be achieved with etching.

I trained at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts where my main study was Graphic Arts. Here I learnt many printmaking techniques and after graduating from there I won a scholarship to Norway, where my interest in the landscape really began. Returning to Britain I settled in Macclesfield, in the foothills of the Pennines, another wonderful landscape I had always loved. Recently I have started painting in oils again, and hope to broaden my horizons in the future, recently returning to Norway, one of the great inspirations of my life so far.

I have work in public and private collections in Britain as well as over thirty countries around the world, including Norway, of course.
